The most common travel insurance claims filed by Canadians during their vacations are surprisingly expensive. The tag price for treating animal bites is between $2,000-$5,000 depending on how deep the wound is or lacerations from a bite are difficult to repair or it needs plastic surgery. Insect bites, sunburn, gastrointestinal and simple bronchitis cases can cost up to $500 while treatment of insect borne diseases like malaria requires you to spend between $2,000-$4,000 if the person is hospitalized especially for an extended period.
The price of treating pneumonia, which really needs hospitalization though, is a whopper ! It starts at $10,000 and up based on the person’s age, how difficult the treatment is and the length of stay in the hospital.
